SCS No. 9 - Staycation

Between the pandemic, busy schedules, and stretched funds, it can be a reach to take as many vacations as we sometimes need to reset, regroup, and recover.  But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a break from the daily grind and experience some relaxation and fun. A staycation is a perfect (and cost efficient) way to get the benefits of a vacation without the added stress.  A staycation is a vacation spent in your own city or nearby or even your home home, where you can explore your surroundings and enjoy some downtime without the hassle of travel. Here are some tips to create the perfect staycation experience:

  1. Plan ahead and set the tone: Just like a regular vacation, a staycation requires planning. Start by setting the tone for your staycation by creating a relaxing atmosphere at home. Declutter your living space, light some candles, and create a playlist of soothing music to help you unwind.

  2. Choose your activities: Research fun and interesting things to do in your city or nearby. Look for local attractions, events, and activities that you have always wanted to try, but never had the time for. You can also consider indulging in some pampering activities, such as a spa day or a massage.

  3. Plan your meals: One of the best things about vacations is trying new cuisines and dining out. Treat yourself to some delicious meals by trying out new restaurants or cooking up a storm at home. You can even plan a picnic or a barbecue in your backyard (weather permitting! Feel free to take the party indoors with a living room picnic!)

  4. Disconnect from work: It can be tempting to check your work emails or take calls while on a staycation, but it's important to disconnect from work and truly unwind. Set an out-of-office message and let your colleagues know that you will be unavailable for the duration of your staycation.

  5. Get outdoors: Spending time outdoors is a great way to relax and destress. Explore the great outdoors by going for a hike, bike ride, or picnic in a local park. You can also consider visiting a nearby beach or lake for a swim or some sunbathing.

  6. Try something new: Act like you're new here! A staycation is the perfect opportunity to try something new. Sign up for a dance class, take up painting, or try your hand at a new hobby. You might discover a new passion or talent that you never knew existed.

  7. Unplug and unwind: Finally, remember that the goal of a staycation is to relax and recharge. Unplug from your devices, switch off the TV, and spend some quality time with yourself or loved ones. Take a nap, read a book, or simply enjoy some quiet time.

A staycation is an excellent way to take a break from the routine and enjoy some relaxation and fun without leaving your city. With a little planning and creativity, you can create the perfect staycation experience that leaves you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed!
